When
man is born into this world, he is not yet equipped with knowledge
about the life he is still about to live. He is sent into this world
unaware of the reality that is about to befall on him - just like a
traveler who set sail for a destination he has never been to before. He
doesn’t know whether the waves would be high, or whether the journey
would be pleasant at all. He always feels uncertain for the future, but
he lives by the present anyway. Through the course of his life, he
encounters triumphs and adversities; and through these various
experiences that he gains, he is able to learn lessons, and develop
traits, virtues, and elements that form his character.
Eventually,
man reaches that certain point where he feels there is a purpose in
store for him. He begins to question his existence, and he starts to
wonder what his function might be in the society where he belongs to.
That is also the point where he embarks on that journey - to search for
the meaning of his life. He becomes a wayfarer in a quest for this
ultimate desire.
Man
therefore is a being who is in constant pursuit of his own identity. As
he walks the face of this earth, his life is an odyssey where the end
goal is to find the integral knowledge concerning the truth about
himself. It is from the discovery of his identity that he finds his
purpose; and it is from this purpose that he finds meaning and
contentment.
